Every month Reel One invites digital artists, video artists, film makers, screenwriters, editors and freelancers to meet and find out what is going on.  There is a special guest each time, who are experts in their field.  Interesting screenings of work make it a fun, enjoyable and informal event for all.

In December Reel One welcomes multi-talented Ed Cookson.  As well as producing and directing his own BBC-commissioned children’s animationseries Summerton Mill,  ED COOKSON is also the founder and director of The Sancho Plan, the audiovisual band fusing animation, music, gaming, technology and performance to produce unique live shows and installations. Since premiering their show at London’s National Film Theatre in 2005, The Sancho Plan have performed throughout the world at venues and festivals including Ars Electronica (), The Big Chill (UK), Burning Man (US), and headlining the recent Future of Sound nationwide tour, organised by Martyn Ware, founder of The Human League & Heaven 17. Having been nominated for a BAFTA for his work in the videogames industry, and winning the Sundance Online Festival 2004 People Choice award for his collaboration with tokyoplastic.com, Ed has a deep interest in exploring the potential of interactive and immersive entertainment technologies – an interest particularly shared by the film and music industry as they strive to attract audiences in the 21st Century.

Ed will be showing The Sancho Plan’s work and discussing both his inspirations from history and thoughts on the future of animation, film, music and videogames. He will also be happy to answer any questions on the technology he uses.

The Sancho Plan create real-time audiovisual experiences for modern audiences. Their current live performance uses electronic drum pads to trigger sounds and simultaneously control a cast of animated characters, allowing the audience to experience an evolving musical journey through The Sancho Plan universe – an alternate reality featuring parallel animated worlds that reside somewhere between Fantasia and The Animatrix.
