Oxdox Weekend Course For Directors

Dated: September 20, 2005

Weekend Course For Directors With Work In Progress Course runs from 22-23 October 2005 – (limited to 16 places) Following the success of the first Work in Progress course at Oxdox last year, we will be running a second course this year. The course is open to 16 film makers and the workshops will be led by internationally acclaimed directors Mike Grigsby, Kim Longinotto (to be confirmed), Sean Langan, Audrius Stonys and Catherine Rascon. Ian Davies who works as a consultant with the European Commission’s MEDIA+ programme and runs development training sessions in Europe, will advise on Project Identity and The Market. It will provide a unique opportunity for film makers to develop work which they are making, to get feedback and be stimulated by different perspectives. The groups will be small – maximum four people – and will enable detailed feedback for material which film makers are encouraged to bring. This material could be in the form of tapes, written material, photos. The course is specifically designed for work which is already in progress, to help the director create the best film they can. It is vital in the U.K., if we are to work in Europe or take advantage of the increasing popularity of feature documentaries in the cinema, that we need to be as creatively clear and strong as possible. There are practically no arenas to develop or discuss work once film makers have left college and we at times need to be reminded that we are film makers – not just producers of certain types of TV documentaries which can be frustratingly prescriptive and limited in scope. The course is designed to help directors reclaim their voices, to become authors of their own work again. The course will be held in the tranquil surroundings of Oxford University’s Rewley House, where accommodation can also be arranged. Cost of course: £300 All students from the course will receive a 50% discount on all screenings at the Oxdox Festival which runs from October 21 to 28. The cost includes a 3 course lunch both days served in the beautiful surroundings of the university where participants will have the opportunity to continue discussions with the tutors and fellow directors. Full refreshments are also provided throughout the course. Also included is a guest pass for the opening reception of the Oxdox Film Festival.. Please complete the application form available at www.oxdox.com and you can either submit it online or send it with any accompanying material to: Georgia Waite Oxdox 8 Wytham Street Oxford OX1 4SU Email: spellbound.oxford@ntlworld.com
