Free Directing Masterclass – Wed December 7th

Dated: November 1, 2011

Film Nation: Shorts

Oxford Workshop

Film Nation: Shorts is a competition that invites young people to make and vote for films celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Run in partnership with Panasonic, Film Nation: Shorts will introduce young people to film-making, support them in developing their talent, and give everyone who enters a chance to have their work screened around the UK. Winning films will be screened in front of the crowds in venues during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012.

The competition is accompanied by a UK-wide programme of workshops to provide extra help to young people to begin making films, develop their skills and meet other people to share ideas and develop projects. One of these workshops will be taking place in Oxford.

FREE: AN INTRODUCTION TO DIRECTING WORKSHOP for 19-25 year olds

Wednesday 7th December 10am – 4pm (lunch is provided)

OFVM Film Oxford, Centre for Digital Media, 54 Catherine Street, Oxford, OX4 3AH

Working with 104 Films and guest director Rebecca Johnson, learn the necessary skills & techniques to successfully direct actors on screen, and to gain the confidence to make your own Olympic and Paralympic inspired film for the Film Nation: Shorts competition.

The workshop offers a rare opportunity to work in an intimate environment with experienced crew giving honest opinions and advice about filmmaking.

Oxford born filmmaker Rebecca Johnson was featured as one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow 2009. Her short film TOP GIRL, screened at many of the world’s leading film festivals and won Jury Special Mention at Birds Eye View, the Black Talent award at Supershorts and Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the Black Filmmakers Festival.

In 2008 Rebecca was selected for Guiding Lights, under which she was mentored by BOURNE and UNITED 93 director Paul Greengrass. Both Paul and his Oscar-winning editor Chris Rouse continue to play mentoring roles in Rebecca’s writing and career development.

Rebecca is now writing her first feature script HONEY, supported by the UKFC through their First Feature Development Programme.
