New Shadowlight Artists Oxford Mail article called “Lights, camera, action… now we can create our own films”, about their recent workshops at Film Oxford as part of Arts Council funded project “Creative Bridges”
Shadowlight Artists have been awarded Arts Council of England Funding for their new “Creative Bridges” Project
The Shadowlight Artists are an independent group of digital artists with learning disabilities based in Oxfordshire. The group is supported by Film Oxford, the Education and Creative Charity which is located in East Oxford, and which itself is grant aided by Oxford City Council.
The Shadowlight Artists work in a variety of media, including painting, writing and photography but with a shared interest in digital moving image. Their work is personal, moving and at times challenging. Over the last 6 years the groups digital films have been shown at Galleries (including Modern Art Oxford), at large public events, on the internet, on National TV, at Local, National and International Film Festivals and at the National Film Theatre and Southbank Centre in London.
The Shadowlight Artists have just embarked on a new project called “Creative Bridges”, which is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England. Creative Bridges will allow each of the Shadowlight Artists to recruit and work with a professional artist or artists in order to boost their creativity and skills by producing new work for exhibition during 2016 into 2017. Creative oversight for the project comes from professional artist Chris Oakley, who has exhibited all over the world including in Berlin, Los Angeles and Moscow.
The group are currently all in the early planning stages of their individual productions, but to start the project off, the Shadowlight Artists made a short fantasy film, over three days, as a group. They designed and created “mini-filmsets”, and then using visual effects and “Blue Screen” filming, shrinking themselves down into the mini-filmsets, and acting out a story they created.
