Reel One Network – New Media, New Markets! 23/01/08

Dated: December 18, 2007

Wil Harris is the Director of ChannelFlip Media, an internet video company using short TV productions to bring magazine-style content to viewers on the web.  As a company at the cutting edge of new media, Wil is involved in filming content suitable for use on HD TV all the way down to YouTube and iPod. ChannelFlip, which produces ground-breaking online video blogs, combines traditional journalism – about video games, gadgets and films – with low-overhead straight-to-digital video production, innovative distribution mechanisms and lucrative advertising sales.  Wil will be discussing his experience creating content for internet consumption, the benefits and problems of a prosumer-grade digital workflow, monetising video content on the internet and the perils of starting a video company whilst knowing virtually nothing about video production. To see the channel visit www.channelflip.com

James Newman is the founder, with his partner Elizabeth Moriarty, of  Basilisk – an animation, motion graphics and visual effects company based in North Oxford. Basilisk produces a range of work including music videos, short film, animated idents and promotional films for companies such as Virgin, BT and P&G. Much of the work combines live action with animated 2D and 3D elements. It is usually assumed that visual effects are very costly but Basilisk have explored a variety of techniques to achieve results with limited resources and equipment. James will show a  selection of projects, as well as demonstrating how some of them were put together. You can see some of Basilisk work online at www.basilisk.co.uk
