Reel One Event Music and Film 25/2/07

Reel One – FILM AND MUSIC
Sunday 25th February 10am onwards. Free event.

Jacqueline Du Pré Music Building, St Hilda’s College, Cowley Place, Oxford. OX4 1DY

OFVM and Oxford Contemporary Music have got together to offer an opportunity for filmmakers, musicians and composers to meet, find out what they do and how to get working together. From drama to documentary, experimental to promo, almost all moving image production contains a music score or sound design.

The event will include screenings, talks, debates and discussions on music for film and video, with guest speakers including Miguel Mera, Andrew Wilson and Ross Aitken. There is even a ‘creative speed dating’ session for composers and filmmakers!

Speakers include:
Miguel Mera
Miguel has led courses on film and music at the Royal College of Music London, Royal Northern College of Music and the British Film Institute. He has composed for film and TV including commissions for  BBC 4,  BBC Horizon, The Martin Stitt film  What Does Your Daddy Do? (shown at this years Venice film festival),  The Greek Man From Pakistan (Snakeheads Productions), Auschwitz: The Forgotten Evidence (Flashback/Channel 4) and a new score for Charlie Chaplin’s silent film Easy Street.
 
Andrew Wilson
Andrew has workedin television, film and radio for eight years. He produced 6.6.04 which wasnominated for best British Short Film in 2004 and Between friends received anOFVM production bursary. He is currently developing a documentary on thecomposer and non-musician Brian Eno.
 
Ross Aitken
Before movinginto film Ross had a background in music journalism. Since then he has produced and directed 6 shorts under the Ikonic Films label and recently earned his first feature film writing credit on a forthcoming film about the London bombings of 2005. Ross also works as a Production Co-ordinator in TV. Recent credits include Have I Got News For You, Wind-Up TV and Time Team Live.

Outline Timetable

0930 registration

1000 introductions (to the day in general and people speaking)

1010 Andrew Wilson, Ross Aitkin, Miguel Meera leading a discussion of 2-3 short films with original scores submitted especially for the day. Would Neil be willing for one of his to be included?

1040 Miguel Meera: Music and Film in Theory – an overview

1110 10 minutes per contributor (Andrew Wilson, Ross Aitkin, Miguel Meera) on thier work and careers.

1140 Open discussion with panel (Andrew Wilson, Ross Aitkin, Miguel Meera) and audience on music for film/ TV/ video.

1200 Lunch

Afternoon will be music and dance workshop.
