Description
Introduction to Filmmaking – online course is a seven-session, interactive beginners’ course for Adults (18+) who want to start learning and developing skills in all areas of film making. This interactive course led by a pro filmmaker runs on Zoom over seven weeks with 90-minute sessions for a maximum of 10 learners (10.5 hours contact time). Introduction to Filmmaking – online course is a fun and flexible, hands-on introduction to using Smartphones, Camcorders, DSLR, Video Cameras and editing for beginners. You will get a better understanding of how to film a video from start to finish, using different equipment, planning, filming, and editing your videos on free professional video editing software.
The course will rely on homework and forum discussions to make the most out of the course, practice makes perfect!
For this beginners’ course previous filmmaking experience is not required except you must have good general computer skills and a reasonably modern computer (for video editing). You must have access to a smartphone, DSLR or other type of video camera.
NOTE: the seven sessions will run over 8 weeks as Thursday 2nd June is an extra Bank Holiday.
Who is “Introduction to Filmmaking” Online course aimed at?
This online course is for anyone interested in the art of filmmaking. At the end of the course, you will know about different equipment used in filmaking; you will be able to film interviews and B-roll. You will recognise which tools to use for your workflow. Finally, you will be able to plan a video from start to finish and create a story to share with your friends or online. If this is something you are interested in learning, then Introduction to Filmmaking course is for you!
Sessions are run on Zoom and are recorded so you can catch up on missed sessions or watch again. Learners must be Adults (18+).

Session One – Introduction to film equipment – 7.30pm – 9pm
Using different types of cameras and audio, apps and others.
Session Two – Introduction to film making. – 7.30pm – 9pm
Different Shot types, camera angles. Understanding Exposure, focus and white balance.
Session Three – Planning content for your video – 7.30pm – 9pm
Planning a video, getting ideas, research, script and more.
Session four – Filming an interview and lighting – 7.30pm – 9pm
How to film and light an interview.
Session five – Introduction to basic editing using DaVinci Resolve – 7.30pm – 9pm
Importing media, viewing, making selections of your videos and basic editing tools.
Session six – Continuing Editing– 7.30pm – 9pm
Adding titles, music and export your video.
Session seven – Feedback and questions– 7.30pm – 9pm
Discussion on any topic related to Filmmaking and next steps.
