Oxford’s Cinema Story: Help Us Capture the Memories
We are looking for participants aged 50+ to join ‘Oxford’s Cinema Story’, a free intergenerational film project working alongside young people aged 16-25.
Working with local historian Liz Woolley, participants will research and create a short documentary exploring the experiences of cinema-goers and workers. Participants will also learn filmmaking skills and explore archive collections at the Oxfordshire History Centre.
Course dates and application form here – Apply by 9am on Thursday 27th August.
We’re Looking for Your Memories
Do you remember going to the cinema in Oxford? Did you work at the Ultimate Picture Palace, the Odeon, the Phoenix, or any other Oxford cinema?
Whether your memories are of seeing the latest blockbuster, attending Saturday morning picture shows, or working behind the scenes, we’d love to hear from you.
Your stories could become part of the documentary and help preserve Oxford’s cinema history for future generations.
To share your memories, please email: nicola@filmoxford.org
Call out for Volunteers
As part of the project, we are looking for volunteers to help preserve and catalogue our paper archive, which includes 40 years of posters, leaflets, and other materials. Travel expenses can be covered.
If you are interested, please contact nicola@filmoxford.org by 20th September 2026.
