Film Oxford is seeking Trustees

Dated: December 19, 2025

Film Oxford is seeking new Trustees, particularly those with expertise in charitable fundraising, business planning, and/or local connections in East Oxford, particularly in the Cowley Road area.  Ideally, we would draw new trustees from groups we aim particularly to support with our project work – young people, people with learning disabilities, people from the global majority, and communities within East Oxford.

Film Oxford is a creative arts charity.  It formed, as Oxford Film and Video Makers Ltd, in 1986 as a collective of local freelance filmmakers and other film industry professionals, and in 2004, moved to its current location in East Oxford.  It retains an archive library of local history films, vintage filmmaking equipment, and artwork.

2026 marks our 40th anniversary, as we plan our move into the newly opened East Oxford Community Centre.  We aim to build a resilient board of Trustees to support and advocate for our work in the community, with funders, and with local government, and to represent and advocate for the local community within our planning and operation processes.  We currently have five Trustees and hope to expand to between 8 and 10 in the coming months.

To find out more or let us know you would like to volunteer, please email office@filmoxford.org

What would you do

We ask our Trustees to provide around 4 hours of voluntary work per month, including joining regular online Management Committee meetings, and our AGM.  Film Oxford is a registered charity (1041014), and a limited company (02022892) and Trustees would be required to be registered both with the Charity Commission as Trustees, and with Companies House as Directors.  Film Oxford is also a members’ organisation, and Trustees would be members of the organisation.

Our vision:

To see an inclusive, creative landscape in Oxfordshire, that reflects and celebrates diverse voices, and is a catalyst for social change.

Our mission:

To ignite creativity through accessible programmes, workshops, events and socially impactful activities, ensuring that the benefits of creativity reach all communities, particularly the most vulnerable in society.

Core Values:

  • Creativity: We value imagination, innovation, and creative expression.
  • Social Justice: We are committed to advancing equality, championing inclusivity and supporting disadvantaged groups.
  • Collaboration: We foster partnerships and teamwork to achieve our goals.
  • Community: We seek community-led engagement and high social impact.
  • Showcasing: We aim to present (on both physical and online platforms) the work created to the broadest possible audiences, including those from hard-to-reach groups.

The type of work we do to meet our core values:

  • Project work funded by organisations such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England, and Postcode Lottery, short-to medium term projects working with disadvantaged groups to provide access to and support with producing and showcasing their creativity, commonly through films, digital art, traditional visual art, and other media including spoken word, writing, and music. Groups commonly supported are:
    • people with learning disabilities, via sub-group the Shadowlight Artists
    • young people
    • people from disadvantaged areas or communities
    • older people
  • Training courses for the general public –short courses (typically two to three days in person, or 10 to 15 hours in the evenings online) for the public, teaching filmmaking and related skills, both to further our charitable aims of delivering the benefits of creativity to all communities, and to provide income to support the organisation.
  • Production work and bespoke training for corporate clients and large organisations, providing filmmaking and training servicesto bring in income to support our charitable aims.
